I provide editorial services for authors and publishers from concept to publication.
I provide editorial services at all stages of the publication process – from developmental editing, conceptual planning and book structuring to line editing, proofreading and indexing. This can be tailored for individual projects to be as hands-off or as consultative as required. I help authors distil their ideas, find their voice and communicate clearly with their audiences.

For publishers

I am available to work with publishing companies on a freelance or retained basis. I have experience in reviewing manuscripts and offering detailed feedback to authors, as well as specific historical expertise.

Consult

 In the early stages of writing a book a development editor brings clarity to themes, important ideas and the overarching structure of the book.

This can involve consultation and discussion, reading outlines, or whole drafts and offering expert feedback.

Edit

Once you've got something down on paper the editor's job is to bring out your distinct voice and unique ideas as clearly as possible.

At this stage editors read drafted text - or even completed manuscripts - and get stuck into how best to attract and communicate with your audience.

Publish

In the final stages, editors get into the nitty-gritty of proofreading, checking for typos, and making sure the whole manuscript is formatted consistently.

After that, it's off to the publisher!
